Barcode Cards for Cheating

Crooks are always looking for new ways of stealing credit card data. They now plan to use phony cards that have barcodes as a way to do this. According to a Secret Service memo, these barcode-encoded cards can be used in an evolving form of card-not present fraud. The fraud involves fraudulent club membership cards that have barcodes and expiration dates and a CVV number printed on them. These cards can then be inserted into cashier’s terminals to allow the cheats purchase merchandise.

These cards’ barcodes contain stolen credit card information. They are then attached on to phony cash network rewards cards. These phony cards then get distributed to cashiers at WalMart and Sam’s Club. The thief’s card information can be retrieved from the cashier by scanning the barcode on a phony card. The fraud will then be recorded as a card non-present purchase.

A barcoded deck card is a deck of cards with invisible ink on the four edges. These ink spots can absorb IR which is then reflected off cards’ edges by a special poker cheating device.

A sequence of black spots is formed when the IR light hits ink spots along the four edges of a specialized deck. The cheating device interprets the black spots remotely to determine the card’s value and suit.

These IR-absorbing spots cannot be seen by the human eye and are not visible to other forms or illumination, such as UV light. However, they can be detected using a computer analyzer and other high technology devices that can recognize ink spots along the edges.

Cheats can also use IR-absorbing paint to mark cards. Some of these techniques include bending the cards, scratching them with a knuckle or finger nail, and even nicking them.

While these old-fashioned and embarrassing techniques have their place, they don’t necessarily provide the kind of advantage that modern technology does. Cheaters are now combining IR-absorbing ink with cameras and computers to create a sophisticated card marking system that is a lot more difficult for the casino to detect than the old UV light method.

One such device is a small phone-sized analyser that uses a hidden lens to view the cards on the table. The device reads the card markings, then sends them to the computer. It calculates the winning hand by decoding the information.

But a poker player using these types of devices must be careful to use a camera that doesn’t interfere with the image. Additionally, the device must have the ability to rotate by –90 degrees in order for the camera to be adjusted relative to cards to ensure an accurate reading.

Our company has created a new undetectable marking deck. This deck is marked in its four edges only with special luminous ink. The deck cannot be detected by any scanner camera. This deck is not like the IR-marked cards for poker analyzers that are inked-marked using a special Ink and invisible marked decks to be used with contact lenses, which have special ink.
